At least 10 die as boat capsizes in Port Harcourt

At least 10 persons have been confirmed dead after a boat carrying 35 people capsized in the early hours of today August 29th in a river in Port Harcourt, Rivers State <br> <br>Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr Onimode Bandele said rescue efforts are still ongoing in the search of more people. <br>"We can confirm that 10 persons died early today when a Port Harcourt-bound passenger boat sank. Rescue efforts are ongoing and the agency is already working with other bodies and security agencies in the rescue efforts." he said <br>Chairman of Bonny local government council, Adonye Wilcox, said <br>"Information available indicates that the boat hit an object on the way and sank. Local divers have rescued 17 persons, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps, while 10 persons died as a result of the accident" he said.

Opposition MPs walked out of the ceremony.<p>Outgoing Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is set to be PM after being elected head of the governing AK Party.<p>Mr Erdogan promised in his presidential oath to protect Turkey's independence and integrity, to honour the constitution and adhere to the principles of the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.<p><br>Mr Erdogan pledged to safeguard the existence and independence of the 'great Turkish nation' as well as the rule of law, democracy and the secular republic<p>The new president was treated to full military honours<p>Opposition MPs walked out of parliament shortly before the swearing-in ceremony<br>"In my capacity as president of the Republic, I swear upon my honour and repute before the great Turkish nation and before history to safeguard the existence and independence of the state," Mr Erdogan said at the brief ceremony in parliament.<p>The new president left parliament to lay a wreath at Ataturk's mausoleum in the centre of Ankara - widely regarded as one of the most important symbols of the secular republic.<p>Another ceremony was held at the presidential palace.<p>'Deteriorating relations'<p>MPs from the main opposition party walked out of parliament just before Mr Erdogan arrived, in protest over what they say is his disrespect for the constitution.<p><br>Mr Erdogan's family was in parliament to watch the ceremony<p>The new president left parliament after his swearing-in to lay a wreath at the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk<br>One legislator was even reported to have hurled a copy of the constitution toward the Speaker, complaining that he was not allowed to express his views.<p>Main opposition party leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu boycotted the inauguration ceremony.<p>Under the constitution, Mr Erdogan must cut his ties with the AK Party upon becoming president.<p>At the party's congress on Wednesday, he said Turkey needed a new constitution, which analysts say would introduce the style of executive presidency that Mr Erdogan openly seeks.<p><br>Ahmet Davutoglu is expected to be officially appointed prime minister after the inauguration<br>Thursday's inauguration ceremony was attended by several heads of state.<p>However, the US only sent a representative of its embassy and no Western European leader was there.<p>The BBC's Mark Lowen in Ankara says it is perhaps a sign that Turkey's relations with the West have deteriorated in the past few years of Mr Erdogan's premiership.<p>Mr Erdogan clamped down violently on anti-government protests last year and recently compared Israel's policy in Gaza to "genocide... reminiscent of the Holocaust".<p>His supporters say he has transformed Turkey's economy and given a political voice to the country's conservatives.<p>However, his critics accuse him of having an abrasive style and Islamist leanings.<p>Our correspondent says Mr Erdogan will face pressure to try to unite a polarised country, which stands on the edge of a volatile Middle East.<p>Mr Erdogan won the presidential election earlier this month after gaining nearly 52% of the votes in the first round.

But before it could be shot, it dived into a compound and vanished. It comes and goes anytime and anyhow."We wish government would come to our rescue. Last week, it attacked about two people around Covenant Academy and Housing Estate on Afao Road here.<p>"The monkey is real. There is no one in this area who can say he has not seen it. Children cannot play freely again and women are being harassed by the monkey. This is the period of Ebola. Government should please help us."<p>The Public Relations Officer of the NCSDC in the state, Mr. Tolulope Afolabi said<p>The species is different from the common small ones. It is big enough to cause anyone fears. It has been seen beside Covenant Academy and Upper land areas.<br>"When we got there after we had been told, we saw it but could not shoot. Unfortunately, the boy passed on just before the rescue team stepped into the hospital.<p>Narrating the ugly incident to the reporter at their two-room apartment in the area, Mama Chibuzor, who could not control her emotions, said: "Junior had assisted me in cooking some rice for sale in my stand at Okesa market before I left home. But it was hardly two hours after I left that someone came running to me that Junior had been electrocuted. I immediately rushed to the scene and met people making frantic efforts to rescue him.<p>"We eventually removed the earpiece from his ears, unplugged the handset from the power socket and rushed him to the hospital. But he died just as we were about stepping into the hospital.<p>"I was told that Junior plucked the handset, which he also connected to the earpiece, into the power socket so as to charge the phone. He was also using the earpiece connected to the phone to listen to some music on the phone.<p>"Some people said he slept off while listening to the music on the phone and charging the phone at the same time. They said it was while doing that he suddenly shouted for help, and when people rushed to him, he was already gasping for air."<p>Mama Chibuzor further said his son would have lived had he got help on time. She said: "If there had been elderly people around, apart from his elder brother who wasn't clever enough to devise a better means of saving Junior, my son might have survived the electrocution."<p>She said she couldn't say if Junior had been in the habit of listening to music on the cell phone while charging it. "I only know that he was an obedient boy who didn't get into trouble with anyone. He was also very dutiful; he never got tired of running errands in the house at anytime. Only God understands why this happened to him," she lamented.<p>Junior was buried three days after his death. According to his mum, all his clothes, pictures, shoes and other things that could bring back some emotional memories had been removed by the family.

It was a very big and star-studded movie featuring stars like Seun Akindele, Olu Jacobs, Saheed Balogun, Juliet Ibrahim who was acting her first Yoruba movie, Jude Orhorha, Funsho Adeolu, Fathia Balogun and more. The movie was directed by Lancelot Imasuen, which also was his first time directing a Yoruba movie.<p>What inspired the movie?        <p>The story is about a young lady called Moyeni and her experience, what she had to go through not by choice but by fate and providence. She did not have a choice of what`s happening in her life and how to deal with the woman she turned out to be.<p>What were the challenges you encountered during production?   <p>My major challenge was funding because it was not easy for me to get people to invest in the movie. But at the end, I had to raise some money. I also had the support of my husband. My marketer, Adekaz Production also supported me in this project.<p><p>What would you count as the pains and gains?<p>For the gains I can't say for now probably when I get the returns of the money invested in this new movie, then I can count my gains. As for the pains, I'm yet to see any. This is a movie that would be taken to the cinemas across the country as we are planning a UK premiere, US, Dublin, Canada and Nigeria before it starts showing in the cinemas.<p>Being a star-studded movie, how were you able to get the likes of Olu Jacobs, Juliet Ibrahim, Fathia Balogun, Seun Akindele, Jude Orhorha in one movie?<p>It was not difficult for me. Once you have a very good story and technical hands and you approach any serious actors you want, they read your story and fall in love with it. They'll always want to be part of it. Once they know you produce good movies, they will always want to be with you. When I had the story, I already knew who and who would fit into each role. I approached them with the script, they fell in love with it. Uncle Olu Jacobs was on set, because he is a veteran, an icon and someone I look up to in the industry. He is one of those who paved the way for us in the industry and someone I have so much respect for.<p>How were you able to groom Juliet Ibrahim into a Yoruba movie? <p>I had a director who was directing his first Yoruba movie same as Juliet Ibrahim, but my scriptwriter also played the role of an assistant director. So, he was the one who took Juliet through her lines. The character she played was not compulsory for her to speak Yoruba all through in the movie. She was so excited about learning the language and as an artiste, it's also exciting when you are doing something new and challenging because when you do the regular thing all the time, it gets boring. Besides, she was also willing to learn<p>Would you say your marital experience contributed to the inspiration of this movie?<p>They are two different things. As a film maker, I`m an advocate for change, a lot of things are happening either in marriage or other areas. I believe I can preach change through the kind of movies I produce that someone out there would feel the movie is talking to him. So, it had nothing to do with my own marital experience. It is a movie that is preaching hope and it would correct a lot of things, especially in marriage.<p>It is obvious that you are enjoying a blissful marriage, how is it treating you?<p>I am enjoying it because I married my own husband and my best friend. Marriage becomes easy when you marry your best friend because he/she is someone you can easily relate with.<p>You featured in the movie, can you tell us about your role?<p>I played the lead character in person of Moyeni. The way she saw marriage and her experience was not easy because she had many nasty experiences, things she did not wish for herself but was born into it<p>What are the lessons people would learn from this movie?<p>With this movie, I am trying to preach that we should be very careful with the way we deal with each other. It is also a movie that is telling parents that in whatever you do, you should be careful because it might affect not just you but your "generation unborn".<p>How much did the movie gulp?<p>It is a big budget movie but I would not want to disclose the figures.<p><br>Apart from Life After Marriage, what should we expect from you?<p>Lots of my fans are asking when is Osas Omoge Benin 2 coming out but I promise them that after this movie, they should expect the concluding part of. Osas Omoge Benin 2.<p>What advise will you give to young ladies about marriage?<p>They should take their time before getting married. Don't allow yourself to be pushed into marriage. At whatever age or time you get married, the most important thing is to find your life partner because the truth is that when you find the right person, you just have to be happy. It's when you are happy that you can be useful to your society and be productive.<p>Maybe because marriage is an institution ordained by God, it is going through a lot of things. So, I feel the devil is taking it personal to attack marriages, be it celebrity. Marital problems are not synonymous with you being a celebrity or not. I just felt it is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. We should know that marriage is a divine institution and when we say we are married, no matter the challenges we should learn to cope and make the best use of everything we have. Luckily it never happened.<br>If only all religions would take this hands-off approach and let us all believe whatever we like. No pressure. I hope that one day, that will happen. I would say "Please, God," but I can't.

I'm still waiting to get a better job so I could settle down and probably get married, but you know how ghetto life be na. That is by the way. <br> <br>A man moved into our compound few months back and since then, I've been having series of 'nightmares.' <br> <br>During the recent hot weather, it has been impossible to sleep without ventilation, and on several occasions, my next-door neighbor shrieks throughout the night. Shouting in her native dialect; "yee egba mi oo, mogbe oo, o n dunmi oo, o n taa mi oo, fi mi le o (meaning, "save me oh, am dying oh) wouldn't let me sleep. I am a light sleeper and feel irate about this noise pollution. <br> <br>All these would force me to keep all night and I would resume work the following morning dozing. Recently, I was even queried for sleeping on duty. <br> <br>I pleaded with him last week to tone down the volume of their 'noisy sex' but he asked me to go and get married or mind my business. S.K.E. Udeh-Okoye, moved a motion for its adoption.<p>Ude-Okoye, who sponsored the Motion on Notice alongside 21 other members of the legislature, noted that the motion was in line with the provisions of section 188 (9) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which provides for the removal of members of the executive arm of government.<p>The motion called for a resolution of the House to consider the report of the investigative panel on the allegations against the deputy governor, and that the House, having carefully considered the report of the investigative panel, "do adopt it."<p>Onyebuchi was accused of running an illegal poultry in his official residence, thus constituting an offence according to a resolution of the House, and also refusing to represent Governor Sullivan Chime at official functions, in spite of a directive from the governor.<p>The lawmakers, in the impeachment notice, held that the said actions amounted to gross misconduct on the part of Onyebuchi.<p>The deputy governor had denied the allegations, alleging being witch-hunting for expressing an intention to contest the seat of the Enugu East Senatorial Zone, which is said to have been reserved for the governor's Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo.<p>Onyebuchi's position became shaky after the lawmakers commenced impeachment proceedings against him on July 23.<p>The impeachment saga was eventually tagged 'Enugu chicken impeachment' by the citizens of the state as most of the testimonies presented before the impeachment panel centred on the poultry operated by Onyebuchi in his official residence.<p>The panel was told that the stench from the poultry was an embarrassment to the state government, which had to relocate the chickens.<p>It was also alleged that the poultry constituted severe health hazards to residents, staff and visitors in the Government House.<p>But Onyebuchi, who claimed that he was not aware of the whereabouts of the chickens since they were moved, retaliated by alleging that the governor also operated an official poultry and piggery in the Government House.<p>He pointed to sums allocated to the said poultry and piggery in the state's budget to justify his claim.<p>But in a statement by Chime's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Chukwudi Achife, the governor denied Onyebuchi's allegation, explaining that the poultry mentioned by the deputy governor was part of the 'Agric Unit' in the Government House, which served both the governor's and deputy governor's official residences, as well as the needs of the staff.<p>He said that staff of the agric unit slaughtered a cow at the request of the deputy governor on August 4, 2014, when Onyebuchi was already facing impeachment proceddings.<p>The deputy governor would have been removed before Tuesday had the panel not adjourned   for a few days after Onyebuchi slumped while testifying in his own defence on August 18.<p>Onyebuchi's lawyers and aides blamed the development on the stress occasioned by the impeachment proceedings.<p>It is expected that Onyebuchi's replacement as the deputy governor will be announced very soon.

We still don't know why Hassan Tukur is insisting on the man.<p>"We can't trust him for anything. Look at the auditing job given to him concerning the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation? Do you know the problem that report caused this government?<p>"Before Ribadu submitted the report, he had leaked it to all the embassies in the country. Will it therefore not be wrong to have such a man close to the government he had denounced and condemned in the past?"<p>He said the position of the governors was capable of affecting the waiver that Ribadu was seeking from the leadership of the PDP to enable him to take part in the   governorship primaries in his state.<p>Under the constitution of the party, new members and returnees are not qualified to seek elective positions until after two years ─ except they get a waiver.<p>Section 50 (9) of the PDP constitution says, "There shall be a minimum of two year membership span for a member to be eligible to stand for election into any public office, unless the appropriate executive committee gives a waiver or rules to the contrary."<p>Our correspondent gathered that the members of the National Working Committee of the PDP were sharply divided on whether to grant him waiver or not.<p>While some NWC members were said to have favoured that he (Ribadu), Buba Marwa and Marcus Gundiri be granted   waivers, others were said to have rejected the move.<p>But the PDP said it had not foreclosed the issue of waiver for Ribadu and others.<p>The members of the NWC are expected to meet in Abuja on Wednesday (today) and there were speculations that the matter would come up.<p>The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, who spoke with our correspondent on   Tuesday, said , "The issue of waiver is not a problem.<p>"We the members of the NWC are meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) and if the matter comes up as part of the agenda, we will discuss it.<p>"Waiver is not a problem at all. So, wait until after the meeting on Wednesday. Like I said, if it comes up, we will discuss it."<p>However, a source close to the former EFCC chairman said he might use his contacts among some of the governors to reach out to others.<p>He said Ribadu was a close friend of at least three of the PDP governors<p>He listed the governors as Ibrahim Shema(Katsina), Seriake   Dickson (Bayelsa) and Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom). Ironically, Akpabio is the Chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum.<p>"These are his friends among the PDP governors and they will definitely try to speak for him," the source added.<p> <p><br>

Actually, I feel like a young man. I still enjoy my meal of Iyan (pounded yam), Eba and bush meat. I sleep whenever I want to and wake up stronger I want to live longer to prove to all that God remains the same as He was in times past. If Methuselah could live for 969 years, God can make me live well beyond 113. If Noah could be 950, it is not too much for Him to make me live up to 200."<p>Even if that wish was not granted, Sadela left an indelible imprint in the hearts of his members and admirers around the world.<p>The cleric, who claimed angels taught him to read the Holy Bible when he was only two years of age, raised not a few eye brows when he married a 30-year-old woman in 2007.<p>"The Lord is my strength. I am very strong and energetic," he was quoted as saying after the wedding in Lagos.<p>According to reports, he first got married in 1934, with the marriage lasting for 21 years, but none of the couple's seven children reportedly lived beyond their infancy. A second marriage, said to have been consummated in 1965, was blessed with four children, but only two survived. His second wife died in 2001.<p>A native of Ondo State, Sadela attended St. Paul's Anglican Primary School, Ifon, Osun State, but had to drop out when he travelled to Sapele, Delta State to work as houseboy to one Captain Pullen, a District Officer. Sadela however retraced his steps in 1918 and completed his Standard six education in 1920.<p>Meanwhile, reactions from clerics have greeted his death. The Osun State Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Elisha Ogundiya, in a phone interview with our correspondent, expressed shock at Sadela's passing.<p>He prayed that God, 'will comfort his family.'<p>Similarly, the founder of Christ Overcomer's Assembly, Rev. Dipo Filani, described Sadela as a highly respected man of God.<p>"He was one of the oldest pastors alive in Nigeria.
