More states have shunned the September 22nd date selected by the Ministry of Education for the resumption of public and private primary and secondary schools in the country.
Student Pulse gathered that only a few states like Lagos, Kwara and Ondo have stayed with the fixed date while many other states have chosen different dates.
On Friday, the Osun State government announced Monday, 6th of October, 2014 as the official date for schools to resume in the state.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the state commissioner for education, Mrs. Grace Laoye Tomori, the date was selected for the 2014/2015 academic session for public and private primary and secondary after careful consideration of opinions from stakeholders.
She however urged school proprietors and administrators to ensure a culture of hygiene in their schools.
In a similar development, the Secretary to the Ogun state government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, announced announced October 8 as the new resumption date for private and public schools in the state at a Friday press conference.
Adeoluwa said the decision came after concerns that many schools were not prepared for the Ebola Virus threat.
"Left to the government, we want to return the students to school on Sept. 22," Adeoluwa said.
"But the operators raised the issue of gadgets and when we went round, we discovered that the facilities in some schools need to be improved.
Student Pulse report yesterday Zamfara schools will now reopen on the 13th of October while Niger state chose October 9th.
All this is coming even after President Goodluck Jonathan said "Ebola is no longer a threat in Nigeria," hence the need to reopen schools.
