We deem it imperative at this historical juncture to salute our ever dogged,rugged and intellectual Oouites,since the genesis of this noble struggle for affordable and qualitative education in our University,which is premised on our ideology that 'education is a right and not a privilege',the rank and file of Students populace have remain resolute.
It is rather unfortunate that in this part of the world, we are confronted with irresponsible and irresponsive government,who remain deaf to the word of the great Icon,former South African President,who says "Education is the most
powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". It is quite worrisome that the continuous lack of vision of our political elites and a society that trivilise education of the people is producing slaves for society that values education,this justifies the bases for the deaf and dumb act of our government to the cries and yearnings of our gallant Oouites,for affordable education against the status quo.
Dearest Oouites,we refuse to be stagnant, we refuse to succumb and never shall we stop our continuous agitation for affordable education in our University,however,it is painful to announce that the Students' Union Government is suspending the ongoing struggle for now.
Oouites,the suspension is based on the apparent realities,having critically looked into it,and considering the intervention of ASUU (Oou Chapter), JAF and other civil society organisations,the decision was taken,and for the overall interest of Oouites, irrespective of faculties,level or any academical status in the University.
Meanwhile,some of the issues that informed our decision was that the if we continue the struggle,2013/2014 session would be scrapped,ASUU will embark on her leave.
Next year,the 2014/2015 will commence with the implementation of our agitated reduced fee, furthermore, the concession by the University Senate, if rejected, what is possible based on the information we have is that, Security men will take over and the school will resume. When this happens, lectures will commence and Union members (Students) that want resumption will resume and by then, we would have lost the power to negotiate or get the University Senate's concession, including the 2 instalmental payment for this session.
We are able to see these issues among others, by the virtue of our position which informed our decision for suspending the struggle and to avoid the wise word that says, "grasp all and lose all".
In conclusion, we want to emphatically state here that the decision to accept the new fee was predicated on the request to commence implementation in 2013/2014 session.
The inability of the authority to implement it gives credence to our continuous struggle on what is payable from 2014/2015 session. To us, we will continue to say that it is illogical, wicked and shameful of the Ogun State Government to refuse to implement the agitated reduced fee from this current session.
The insincerity and anti students acts of certain individuals in Ogun State Government is highly regrettable. While the Students have accepted the concession and 2 instalment paying method from the University Senate, to us, the negotiation on what to pay in 2014/2015 shall continue.
However, we implore all our students to know that we remain victorious in this struggle, for struggle without self truth and reality consideration is futuristic dangerous.
We hereby appreciate all media organisations that have been with us, Civil Societies, especially Joint Action Front (JAF) and every progressive individuals.
Please note that soon, we shall come again as the struggle for affordable education continue. Aluta continua! Victoria ascerta!,
