He was born on January 1, 1930.<br>Unconfirmed sources said the monarch, who was said to have been flown out of the country since last Friday, died in the United Kingdom.<br> <br>Most top Ife indigenes and Osun State government officials contacted by The PUNCH late on Tuesday kept sealed lips but some traditional rulers in the state confirmed that Sijuwade had died.<br>The spokesperson for the Ooni, Chief Funmilola Olorunnisola, told one of our correspondents that, "I don't have anything to tell you immediately."<br>One Osun traditional ruler, who asked not to be quoted, confided in one of our correspondents on the phone last night that the Ife monarch had died.<br>He said, "The Ooni is dead. It is true. He died about two hours ago in the UK. His two oloris (wives) – Olori Moni and Olori Odun – were with him in the UK.<br>"He travelled out for treatment anytime he fell ill but he couldn't make it this time. It is sad but I believe it is God's time. There was nothing anyone could do to stop it.<br>"Tokunbo, his eldest child, will probably leave for the UK this evening. There is nothing we can do but we take solace in the fact that he lived well. The proper announcement will be done later,"<br>The traditional ruler's account was corroborated by another monarch, who explained that the Ooni was indeed flown out of the country five days ago in an air ambulance after he slumped.<br>A call to the line of the monarch was not answered.<br>There had been fears over the health of the first class monarch since 2013 when he was taken out of the country for medical attention for over a month.<br>Oba Sijuwade ascended the throne in December 1980.<br>Born on January 1, 1930, Sijuwade became the fiftieth ruler of the ancient kingdom of Ife, popularly referred to as the cradle and source of the Yoruba, in 1980.<br>Though he took the name Alayeluwa Olubuse II upon his installation, he dropped "Alayeluwa" from his name a few years back, saying that only God is fit to be called "Alayeluwa."<br>Alayeluwa means omniscience.<br>A former commissioner and indigene of Ife, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, "It is true. I was with him on Wednesday. Last Thursday when we held the political summit in Ife, he supported us and sent an emissary to the summit. He slumped on Thursday and was rushed to Ibadan airport from where he was flown to Lagos in an air ambulance en route to England for treatment. He became stable by Saturday. It is sad that he relapsed and passed on."<br>The flamboyant traditional ruler was crowned king on December 6, 1980 in a colourful ceremony attended by prominent traditional rulers the Emir of Kano, Oba of Benin, Amayanabo of Opobo and the Olu of Warri as well as the representatives of the Queen of England.<br>It was gathered that the Ife traditional council and the Osun State traditional council would meet on Wednesday.<br>A competent source disclosed that emissaries from the two councils would visit the Governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, to officially break the news to the governor.<br>Sijuwade was born to the Ogboru ruling house. The handsome king was a grandson of the Ooni Sijuwade Adelekan Olubuse I. He studied at the Abeokuta Grammar School and Oduduwa College in Ile-Ife.<br>He worked for three years in his father's business and later did a two-year stint with the Nigerian Tribune, before attending the Northampton College in the United Kingdom to study Business Management.<br>At the young age of 30, he became a manager in Leventis, a Greek-Nigerian conglomerate. In 1963, he became the Sales Director of the state-owned National Motors in Lagos. After spotting a business opportunity during a 1964 visit to the Soviet Union, he formed a company to distribute Soviet-built vehicles and equipment in Nigeria. This later became the nucleus of his widespread business empire. He also invested in real estate in his home town of Ile-Ife. By the time Sijuwade was crowned Ooni in 1980 he had become a wealthy man, whose fame and connection was global<br>When Sijuwade became the Ooni, he inherited an ongoing dispute over supremacy between the obas of Yorubaland. In 1967 the crisis had been resolved when the late Yoruba sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was chosen as the leader of the Yoruba. In 1976, the Governor of Oyo State, General David Jemibewon, had decreed that the Ooni of Ife would be the permanent chairman of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs. Other Obas led by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, said the position should rotate. The dispute calmed down when Osun State was carved out of Oyo State in August 1991, but still persisted. In January 2009, Sijuwade was quoted as saying that Oba Adeyemi was ruling a dead empire (the Oyo Empire, which collapsed in 1793). Adeyemi responded by citing "absurdities" in Sijuwade's statements and saying the Ooni "is not in tune with his own history".<br>It will be recalled that Oba Adeyemi, the Permanent Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, was conspicuously absent from a meeting of Yoruba leaders in April 2010.<br>In February 2009, Sijuwade helped mediate in a dispute over land ownership between the communities of Ife and Modakeke, resolved in part through the elevation of the Ogunsua of Modakeke as an Oba.<br>In August 2010 he mediated in the ownership dispute between Oyo and Osun states concerning Ladoke Akintola University, calling a meeting attended by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, governor of Osun State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, governor of Oyo State and the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education which resulted in an action plan.

Despite the initial hiccups faced by organizers of the AIS Entertainment students and youth Fashionshow 2015, which resulted in its postponement, the a-list event took place on July 23rd at Eco event centre Egbeda, Lagos with great pomp and pageantry.

Students from   UNILAG, YABATECH, TASUED, FUUNAB, UI and LASU above mentioned tertiary institutions also had the opportunity to exhibit their creativity and artistry

As part of the major highlights for the day, the annual event saw 23 models from the above mentioned tertiary institutions also walked the runway with panache.

Fashion Icons, Jessy. O. Chike and Adesola Momoh played host on the day and Nigeria's Telecoms giant, Airtel Nigeria was the official sponsor for the day.

A-list newspaper, National Weekender provided the media support for the event.

<br>Guaranty Trust Bank Plc has been named 'Best Bank in Nigeria' by Euromoney.
<br>
<br>The lender won the award during the 2015 Euromoney Awards held at the Natural History Museum in London on Thursday, a statement by the bank said.
<br>
<br>The Euromoney Awards for excellence covers more than 20 global product categories in over 100 countries. it recognises institutions that have demonstrated leadership, innovation, and momentum in the markets they operate.
<br>
<br>In selecting its recipients, Euromoney combines quantitative and qualitative data to honour institutions that have brought the highest levels of service, innovation and expertise to their customers.
<br>
<br>The statement quoted the Editor, Euromoney Magazine, Mr. Clive Horwood, as saying, "Competition for the awards this year was tough, arguably the toughest it has been since the start of the global financial crisis.
<br>
<br>"In winning this award, GTBank stands out not only because of its stellar performance but by its ability to define what its core strengths are, abide by these strengths and build its business around them."
<br>
<br>According to him, banking in the future will be about what banks do, and what they don't do.
<br>
<br>He said the Nigerian lender stood out for its ability to adapt to local situations while maintaining international standards of best practice."
<br>
<br>The Managing Director, GTBank, Mr. Segun Agbaje, who received the award on behalf of the bank, was quoted as saying, "We are humbled and proud to be recognised as the 'Best Bank in Nigeria.'

<br>President Muhammadu Buhari has today sacked Nigeria's Service Chiefs. The affected officers are Alex Badeh, Chief of Defence Staff; Usman Jibrin, Chief of Naval Staff, Kenneth Minimah, Chief of Army Staff and Adesola Amosu, Chief of Air Staff.

<br>The relieved service chiefs were appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan on January 16, 2014. Badeh took over from Ola Sa'ad Ibrahim; Minimah replaced Azubike Ihejirika; Jibrin succeeded Joseph Ezeoba and Amosu became chief of Air Staff following the elevation of Badeh. Since he assumed office on May 29, Buhari has met with the dismissed military chiefs on three occasions.

<br>Experts say the Service Chiefs expected that they would be fired any day, as such, they were hardly settled for the complex war against Boko Haram.

We must believe in our system. Whenever you need my intervention at anytime, please come to me, " President Buhari told the Permanent Secretary, Abdulkadir Musa and senior officials.<p>At a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and senior officials of relevant agencies, President Buhari stressed that with its focus on job creation, his government was ready to do whatever it considers necessary to boost domestic manufacturing and industrialisation.<p>The President said that his administration will fully support the effective implementation of the plan evolved by the Ministry to boost local manufacturing through legal, regulatory and structural reforms, lower interest rates, special intervention funds, protection of local manufacturers and significant improvements in national infrastructure.<p><br> <br>"With high interest rates and entrepreneurs needing trillions of Naira to buy machinery, we are virtually back at Ground Zero as far as industrial development is concerned.<p>"So, we will shun all anti-development policies, and make the climate more suitable for entrepreneurs. We will create the environment for them to thrive. Generating employment was one of our key campaign promises and we will keep that promise.<p>The Permanent Secretary and his team told the President that the objective of the Ministry's Industrialisation Plan was to create more jobs, diversify exports and broaden the country's tax base.<p>They said that the plan's critical success factors included dialogue and consultation with industry stakeholders, essential reforms and greater collaboration among relevant agencies

The former President also said his daughter said if that should happen, she would not weep for him.<p>The former President said he, nevertheless, replied his daughter that such would not mean anything to him since he would not be there to appreciate it.<p>Obasanjo, who said this in his controversial book, My Watch, said that was Iyabo's submission when he informed her and three of his other children about his desire to contest the 1999 Presidential election.<p>The meeting with the four children, which he said came after he had consulted almost all those that mattered before joining the presidential race, was held in New York.<p>He said it was ironic that Iyabo became a senator during his tenure.<p>Meanwhile, before being elected a senator, Iyabo was appointed a commissioner by Otunba Gbenga Daniel, while he was serving as governor of Ogun State.<p>Obasanjo said, "My mind was almost made up (to vie for the position of President) but I had to consult with my children. I got four of them together in New York.<p><p> <br>"I told them I was going to decide whether to go into politics or not. Iyabo was the most antagonistic.<p>"She burst out loudly, 'I know you will join and you will die there and if you die, I will not weep.'<p>"I told her 'if I die and you weep, it is for yourself and others, not for me as I will not know you are weeping.'<p>"It is ironic that within 10 years, Iyabo became a Senator and I completed two terms of eight years without a scratch."<p>The former President added that out of the four children in attendance when he spoke with them, it was only Segun who he said, had a few words of encouragement.<p>The son, according to Obasanjo, said, "Daddy, you have always said that we must serve God and humanity and if this is the way you have chosen to serve God and humanity, I will pray for you."<p>With those words from his son coupled with the words of encouragement he said he got from those he had spoken with earlier, the Owu-born retired general said "the die was almost cast."<p>In the book, Obasanjo also mentioned the names of his 21 children. He was however silent on the number of his wives or the mothers of the children.<p>Five of the children are holders of PhD in different fields.<p>The children are Iyabo (PhD), who is the eldest; Busola, Segun(PhD), Gbenga(PhD), Deboye, Muyiwa, Funke, Bola (PhD) and Seun (PhD).<p>Also listed were Dare, Kofo, Dayo, Biyi, Bisoye, Damilola, Jonwo, Bunmi, Funso, Dayo, Toyosi and Bukola.<p>The listing and mentioning of the names of his children was the first time the two-time President of Nigeria, would publicly talk about his children.<p><p><p><p><p><br>Punch 2015
